Our Own Will Robinson, A Living Legend

We’re thrilled to share the news that our own Will Robinson is being honored with the Living Legend Award at this year’s Democratic GAIN Powerful IDEA Awards on June 25th.

(Don’t worry — Will’s doctors assure us he’s not dying!)

For more than 40 years, Will has been pushing boundaries and driving change in Democratic politics — combining innovation, organizing, and storytelling to build power from the ground up.

Some of you may remember him on C-SPAN in the 90s at American University’s Campaign Management Institute where he helped train generations of organizers, operatives, and future campaign managers on the fine points of political strategy, field programs, and voter communication.

One of the things Will is most proud of is helping modernize how progressives communicate. From targeting on cable television to sub-broadcast channels — and, of course, digital — Will has consistently been a pioneer and well ahead of the curve. Back in 2007, after he’d been a media consultant for nearly two decades, he co-founded The New Media Firm with Tierney Hunt to bridge linear and digital communication, making it the first major Democratic media firm to build a digital practice in-house.

He’s constantly working on new ways to target and mobilize voters, working to elect progressive champions up and down the ballot — and, more importantly, he’s never stopped mentoring and training new leaders and building the infrastructure our movement needs to win.

This award celebrates all of that and more — and we couldn’t be prouder to see Will recognized as the Living Legend he is.
